The Nimag Group of Companies can trace its origins back to 1962, where, under the name "Metallurgical" Processes (Pty) Ltd, the manufacture of Nickel Magnesium Master Alloys commenced in the small town of Magaliesburg, some 75km west of Johannesburg, South Africa.
Metallurgical Processes (Pty) Ltd became NiMag Ltd (the parent company of the Group) in 1995 and NiMag (Pty) Ltd in 2003. The group is focused on the production of Nickel Magnesium and other Master Alloys. Magberg Manufacturing commenced production of Ferro Silicon Magnesium alloys in 1997, while Metalloy Fibres (Pty) Ltd began manufacturing stainless steel reinforcing fibres in 2001.
In December 2003, a quoted Australian company, Golden Valley Mine Metals Ltd, purchased the shares in the Group, to enhance its intention to grow the beneficiation of Metals business worldwide.
The vendors remained both as the management team and retained “option” shares in Golden Valley Mines Metals Ltd.
Subsequently in 2004 it was decided that the strength of the Group lay in its International connections and an International Trading Division, known as Metalloy Trading, was commenced to handle both imports and exports to and from Southern Africa .
The company structure was amended around the same time to the following:
NiMag (Pty) Ltd; Magberg Manufacturing (a division of NiMag (Pty) Ltd); Metalloy Fibres (Pty) Ltd and Metalloy Trading (a division of Metalloy Fibres (Pty) Ltd).
The Group's Head Office is conveniently situated in the important business district of Sandton, 20km North of Johannesburg's City Centre.
Nimag Group owns an area of 100 hectares in Magaliesburg, 10 of which is devoted to manufacturing facilities, with the remainder consisting of riverine indigenous “bushveld”, through which runs the Magalies River.
The river frontage area has been awarded conservancy status by the South African Department of Agriculture, demonstrating the Group's commitment to responsible management of its assets.
Exotic fauna and flora are removed whilst indigenous species are protected and reintroduced where necessary.Sports fishing enthusiasts are encouraged to fish for the local indigenous species on a “catch and return” basis, controlled by the Eco Tourism company, “Magalies River Barbus Haven”. |
